One of the first major hurdles every startup founder faces is: "Who should I hire to build my vision?" The choice usually comes down to a well-known development agency or a highly skilled independent software consultant. While both have their place, the choice you make in the first 90 days can determine the success of your product launch.
The Agency Illusion
Agencies often wow you with a "Project Manager," a "UI/UX Designer," and a "Lead Engineer" during the sales call. However, once the contract is signed, your project is often handed off to junior developers while the senior staff moves to the next sale.

- Choose a Consultant if: You need direct senior involvement, a focused product scope, and a partner who can move between product and engineering decisions.
The Verdict for Startups
For many early-stage products, a focused independent consultant can be a strong fit. The right choice still depends on scope, risk, timeline, available budget, and the capabilities already present inside the company.
